Hair Color Tips

Skin Tone

Hair color should work with your skin tone. The best way to determine skin tone in relation to hair color is eye color.

Most people describe their eyes as one color, like blue, green, brown, or hazel. If you look closely, you will see that your eye color is made of dozens of tiny individual specks of color. There is usually a predominant color, and small specks of other colors concentrated around the pupils and rest of your eyes.

As an example, if you have dark brown eyes with caramel specks, you should have caramel highlights with a darker brown base, NOT BLEACHED OUT BLONDE.

Eye color is also a good indication of how hair color and hair lightener will react in your hair. Hair Color on warm eyed or very dark eyed individuals always look warm. If it were ashy, it would make your skin look odd and off color. You can’t expect your hairdresser to change your DNA.

Green Eyes!

If you have green eyes with light yellow specks, you look best with gold, golden blonde, or a light touch of copper or strawberry blonde.

Golden Blonde Hair

Green eyes with copper/ brown specks look good with fiery reds, rich coppers, copper browns, and apricots.

Green Eyes With icy, grey specks look good with dark brown, almost black hair, or very dark reds and violet reds.

Blue Eyes!

Icy blue eyes look good with dark, almost black hair, or very rich, cool reds. Warmer reds can be used if the hair around the face is dark and slightly cool.

Blue eyes that are warmer and have more golden flecks are natural blondes or strawberry blondes. This is the only group of people that truly look good with super blonde hair.

Brown Eyes!

Brown Eyes With Golden Flecks are natural brunettes with golden highlights.

Brown Eyes With Copper/Caramel flecks are can range from warm brunettes to lighter golden coppers.

Brown Eyes with Black or Dark Red Flecks look best with very dark brown hair, or dark brown with cooler auburn highlights.

Your hair colorist should be discussing these color issues with your. If not, you should come to me and I will discuss it with you!
