Garage Sale Tips!

Summer is almost here! Garage Sale Season has just begun. With a little bit of cash and ingenuity you can brag about your budget purchases.

Don’t Dress Too Ritzy

You won’t be able to haggle down a good deal if you look loaded. Keep your dress casual, comfortable, and layered for changing weather.

Put small amounts of money in Different Pockets!

When I was young, I haggled a wine glass set from $15 to $4. When I pulled out a twenty, the vendor was not impressed.

Keep small amounts of money in different pockets. Remember how much is in each Pocket. I’m sure you can come up with some kind of system. Quarters in right pants pocket, three ones in my left. You get it.

When You see something you really like, tell the vendor “All I got is 3 Bucks, will you take it?”. Then pull that 3 bucks out of your pocket and show them. They won’t turn you down and no feelings get hurt.

Old Grannies Have Cool Stuff!

If you are looking for cool vintage clothes or costume jewelry, ignore yards with cribs, and head over to grannies.

Clothing made in the 40’s and 50’s has fabric quality that is not seen today. These vintage treasures have been boxed up for years and are begging for a second life. Some really old women lived in the 20s. Decadence was the key to a great life back then, and discount costume jewelry is our benefit now!

Plan Ahead

Budget Shoppers plan ahead! Check local newspapers and online bulletins. Sometimes entire neighborhoods or apartment complexes have one big sale. This makes your bargain shopping one stop shopping!

Also Check out Estate Sale Listings for deep discounted antique furniture. Antique furniture has a life of its own and adds style to any space.

Have an Open Mind

There is nothing wrong with shopping at garage sales. Buying second hand reduces waist and additional manufacturing emissions. It is also a great source of low impact exercise and a cool way to meet locals.
